System Modelling & Design

Numerical simulations and other process analytics tools are emerging as vital in the design and optimal operation of large scale water and wastewater treatment facilities. These tools are particularly useful when coupled with traditional laboratory and piloting techniques.

Our modelling and design team use state-the-art technology including computational fluid dynamics, finite element analysis and a number of in-house numerical modelling techniques. We use these to help optimise the design of membrane modules, module configuration and tank geometries.

Our services include:

  • Design of bioreactors for the prediction of organic loading, assessing ideal reactor geometry and evaluating solids and hydraulic retention times.
  • The development of new commercial membrane modules (MF/UF/NF/RO), including module configuration, aeration system and tank geometry for fouling minimisation.
  • Design and optimisation of brackish and seawater desalination processes for capital investment and energy consumption.
  • Development of plant resilience models to predict operational failure of advanced water treatment plants. These models help optimise the capital and operating cost over the assets’ lifecycle whilst maintaining process efficiency and compliance
